What is Driving Your Decisions
As a business owner we need to make a multitude of decisions on a daily basis.
You would think that this process would be easy. "Will this help or hinder my growth?"
If the answer is no you don't do the thing or invest money in the thing. If the answer is maybe or yes, then you might proceed.
However it isn't always that easy, because, well, emotions.
Most of us suffer from "Something Shiny Syndrome". Whether it's a course, a piece of software or even hiring a staff member, we often get excited about what this could do for our business before asking the questions to determine if it is the right move. If we have been struggling in our business the shiny objects become even more enticing. "This is what I need to grow my business! I know it".
Then you spend oodles of money or time and nothing comes of it.
Sound familiar? I have been guilty of this more times than I can count.
Let me paint a different picture.
The shiny object comes along. Your first reaction is total excitement. However, before you make that split decision you pause and ask yourself, "Will this actually help me in my business? Am I making this decision based on emotion or logic?"
Then wait a minimum of 24 hours. Review your company mission statement and values (as your coach we do this kind of stuff) and check it against the shiny object.
If it isn't a match don't proceed. If you are not sure give it another 24 hours. If it is a yes and the cost is within your budget then go for it.
When you remove the emotion from your business you can take a more objective approach to what you do and don't do.
So, if you catch yourself making a decision out of emotion than logic just give yourself a little time to be sure it's the right one.
When it's the right decision based on what direction you want your business to go it feels so right and usually delivers the results you are looking for!
